Ouray County, Colorado
Ouray County is located in southwest Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. Established in 1879, the county is fairly rural as the population according to the 2000 U.S. Census is 4,030. Ouray (the county seat) and Ridgway are the two incorporated towns in the county. Much of Ouray County is bordered by mountain passes (Dallas Divide to the west, Red Mountain Pass to the south and Owl Creek Pass to the east), and the region is known for excellent outdoor and recreational opportunities during all seasons. |
